After many years of experience in the PEO and Human Resources Industry, we saw the need for business owners to not only streamline HR functions, but to simplify the process.  We also saw how the trend in PEO organizations no longer focused on the personalized one on one customer contact.  Business owners were needing assistance in not only the technical areas of HR, but also in the employee relations areas.   Nova HR will focus on putting the Human back into Human Resources by providing real time customer service, listening to the clients’ needs and collaborating on simple solutions.  This is the number one area most business owners feel is the missing link when working with a PEO.  We created Nova HR with this goal in mind.

 

We are that one source solution for governmental compliance, employee taxes and many legal challenges. By assuming tasks like payroll, employee benefits, worker’s compensation and employee relations to name a few, you can once again focus on growing your business to its full potential.  By offering this support, we feel we are continuing in the course of the entrepreneurial spirit, the cornerstone of our nation.

MEET OUR TEAM

 

Joe Little, Chief Executive Officer

Joe Little, a graduate of Shepherd University, has spent the past 42 years in various leadership roles in publicly and privately held business in the states of Maryland, Florida and Texas.

 

Joe began his professional career in the sales industry of numerous Fortune 500 Companies such as AT&T, Pitney Bowes and Verizon Yellow Pages. In 1991, he was hired to assist in opening Staff Leasing’s (Gevity HR) 8th branch office in Jacksonville, Florida. Joe was promoted to Profit Center Manager in 1995 and moved to Tampa, Florida to take over Staff Leasing’s largest branch servicing approximately 500 clients and 5,000 work-site employees. From 1995 to 1999 he ran one of Staff Leasing’s five most profitable branches leaving in late 1999 to pursue consulting opportunities. When Mr. Little began with Staff Leasing they were servicing over 12,000 work-site employees and when he left in 1999 they were servicing 120,000.

 

After several years of successful consulting, Joe reentered the PEO arena in 2001 when he was hired by Harbor America as a Regional Sales Leader to advance their interests in the eastern United States. He remained in that position for two years and was promoted to Regional Vice President. In January 2011, Joe was promoted to Sr. Vice President and transferred to Harbor America’s Corporate Headquarters in Houston to head up the Marketing and Human Resources functions.

 

In January 2012, Joe took over the role of C.O.O. During his tenure, Harbor America was recognized as one of Houston’s top ten “Places to Work” five consecutive years by the Houston Business Journal and the Houston Chronicle, finishing second in 2013 in the Business Journal.

 

In early 2018, Joe assumed the role of Chief Revenue Officer of Harbor America and oversaw the Sales & Marketing team and was responsible for increasing revenues produced by Harbor America.

 

Joe left Harbor America in March of 2019 to form Nova HR Inc.

Karen Little, Chief Human Resources Officer

Karen Little is a seasoned strategic Human Resources executive with over 3 decades of experience within the Human Resources Industry. During the course of her career she has worked with fortune 100 and fortune 500 companies focusing on HR strategies and workplace innovation.  She brings vast experience in change management initiatives during mergers and acquisitions, while focusing on employee integration within a changed culture.

 

Her extensive HR portfolio ranges from Coaching & Leadership Management to Organizational Training and Development.  In addition, Leadership roles in Employee Relations and Diversity, Situational Leadership, Counseling, Hiring and Recruiting, HR Legal & Governmental Compliance, Employee Compensation & Benefits as well as Ethics & Compliance align with the customer-centric approach of Nova HR.

 

Accomplished in working with multi-site global organizations with a diverse workforce, her area of expertise is reinforcing the link between management and employees.   Corporations such as American Express, U.S. Sugar Corporation, Intermedia Communications, Tampa Tribune and Home Depot offered the backdrop for employee diversity and cultural resources aligning management and employee goals.

 

Prior to her HR career Karen worked as a Technical Editor in Washington D.C., Newspaper Reporter in Colorado, Cable TV Producer and Sales Professional in Maryland.

 

She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications from Towson State University, Towson, MD.  Initial member of the National Exchange Program where she focused on Journalism and News Reporting.

Nola Wills, CPP, Chief Operations Officer

Nola M. Wills, CPP serves as Chief Operations Officer for Nova HR.   Formally she was Sr. Vice President, CCO for Harbor America Holdings Inc. She was with  Harbor America from 2001 until 2018 and with a start up PEO prior to that time.

 

In her career, Ms. Wills has been responsible for the implementation and conversion of payroll and human resources software, administration and ongoing implementation of various employee benefits, and managed employee benefit, human resources and payroll departments. She has  been a member of the American Payroll Association (APA) since 1983 receiving her Certified Payroll Professional designation in 1987. She previously served APA in several capacities: Board of Advisors, the Education committee, and the PayTrain Learning Systems Advisory committee and as a staff member served as Director of Payroll Training.  In  1992, Ms. Wills  was recipient of the APA Meritorious Service Award. And in May 1995, she was honored with the American Payroll Association’s highest achievement as Payroll Woman of the Year in recognition of the contributions and dedication to the advancement of the payroll profession and the American Payroll Association. Ms. Wills has also been chosen as a member of APA’s Hall  of Fame. Ms. Wills has been a speaker at numerous APA classes and APA Annual Congress as well as the Texas Payroll Conference. She has also authored and edited various APA publication and text books.

 

Ms. Wills served the Houston Chapter of the American Payroll Association as the Government Liaison Officer during 2001 and 2002, President Elect during 2003 and was the 2004 Chapter President. She was also a founding member and former president of the Gateway Chapter of Payroll Professionals.
